Editorial standards & corrections

Updated October 15, 2026

Sources and exact configurations

Manufacturer specifications support hardware facts. Other evidence must be identified for what it establishes. We preserve dates, regional and configuration notes, and missing values. A feature being present is not proof that it works bettr.

Automation and review

Automated tools can assist with collection, normalization, comparison calculations, and draft copy. Source checks and the publication workflow determine what enters the approved catalog. Owner approval is a publication step, not an independent laboratory certification.

Ratings, votes, and affiliate independence

Bettr Scores are calculated using published category rules. Community votes are a separate expression of preference, not a representative survey or a product-quality test. Affiliate revenue does not change the formula.

Prices and freshness

Reference prices may be historical launch MSRP. They are labeled with their source and date, and are not promises of current availability. Missing or configuration-ambiguous prices stay unknown. Retailer offers are separately dated observations.

Corrections

Send evidence to admin@bettrthan.com. We review factual reports, update supported facts, and refresh affected calculations. A changed conclusion should identify the source or methodology change.

Independent speaker tests

Portable speaker performance scores reweight GearLab’s published May 29, 2026 test-category ratings. Sound quality is 60% of Balanced. Original test and review dates are linked beside each covered product. We use one cohort to avoid mixing incompatible scales or generations. Without complete comparable tests, the existing verified-specification model supplies the speaker’s Bettr Score and position in the same rankings list.

Independent headphone tests

Five exact headphone models use GearLab’s July 2026 wireless headphone test cohort. Sound quality contributes 50% of Balanced, with tested noise cancellation, comfort, controls and call quality completing the model. Manufacturer battery claims and Bluetooth versions remain context only. We did not perform these tests.

Correction log

October 22, 2026 — one Bettr Rankings system: Consolidated the two ranking views into one list. Every published product receives one Bettr Score, using complete comparable independent tests when available and the existing verified-specification model otherwise. Category weights, evidence safeguards and product groups are retained. Old score-type links resolve to this same system.

October 20, 2026 — model routing: Reconnected the approved category performance models after the catalog recovery routed public scores only through specification weights. Sound is again 60% of Balanced speaker performance and 50% of headphone performance. The two views introduced at that time were consolidated into Bettr Rankings on October 22.

October 19, 2026: Replaced the remaining hardware-only overall models with performance-led weights and complete-evidence requirements. Fixed provenance inconsistencies affecting headphone budget filters and smartphone source validation. Rankings now use fixed composites within comparable device groups. The October 22 consolidation retains these evidence safeguards while providing scores and rankings from verified published facts whenever complete comparable tests are unavailable. No-subscription filtering now requires a verified $0 fee.

October 18, 2026: Replaced speaker specification-only rankings with a model that gives sound quality 60% of Balanced. Removed weight redistribution caused by unknown feature fields. Prices and manufacturer battery claims no longer affect the speaker performance score. Existing specification comparison URLs remain available and now use the unified Bettr Score.

October 15, 2026: Retired the legacy speaker product and comparison templates in favor of the approved catalog. The older Bose SoundLink Flex / JBL Flip 7 comparison used different facts and scoring and disagreed with the current comparison. Legacy URLs now resolve to the approved replacement or speaker category when no equivalent product remains.
